Black Farmers Market
Black Farmers Market:
This market happens every 1st and 3rd Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. This event has multiple black farmers, growers, and black vendors (we call them members). There are food demos from some members. There’s a booth dedicated to exercise & fitness. Every member crafts their own products. You can find everything from mushrooms to sea moss to coconut soy wax candles to greens. Everything is member crafted.
Things to know: Black Farmers make up less than 2% of all farmers. In 2022, they represented 1.4% of the total number of producers, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Black entrepreneurs represent 2.7% of all employer businesses. Black Americans constitute a significant portion of the U.S. population, but their representation among business owners, especially employer firms, is considerably lower.
This is why the Black Farmers Market is so important. The mission is to increase the awareness of the importance of Black Farmers in our area, enhanced the business growth and development for all vendors at the market, and have provided healthy food access in food deserts. A future goal is to continue to expand self-sustaining Black marketplaces that help solve Black social and economic issues.
