Staff was enthusiastic and eager to answer any questions. The noodles were delicious as was the broth. I wish this place would have showed up quicker on Google. We just happen to find it and we would definitely go back if we lived in the area

This restaurant is seated right off the corner of the road. When I walked in, I was the only customer there in the early afternoon hours (11:30). I was greeted and seat immediately. The server provided a menu, a glass of cold water, chopsticks as soon as I was seated. I took in the views of the beautiful restaurant prior to ordering. The attentive server provided an awesome background of the restaurant. He advised that they are a Chinese ramen noodle restaurant and that the noddles are made in house. I opted for the scallion pancakes as an app and the pork ramen. My food was piping hot which was great. The pancakes were soooo flaky and packed a lot of flavor. Paired with the dipping sauce and it's sure to be a table favorite. The pork ramen was nothing short of delicious. The pork was tender, the noodles were soft yet had a nice buoyancy in the light broth. I did wish that the egg wasn't cooked all the way through however it was still good. To my surprise, when I asked for a to-go box, it comes with the cutest to go bag that I now use while shopping for groceries and they give you to-go chopsticks. I love this place and I'm sure you would too!

I tried to give other chance to Chinese food but it’s not for me so in my opinion the place and the service is good but the food is horrible. The chicken come with bones and fat and same with the meat. The only thing that I liked was the scallion pancake

I was pretty sad to see the last restaurant that was here go, but man, was this delicious and a great new option. Most of their menu items seemed to be noodle soups, but that’s kind of what I was looking for. They did have non-soup options as well, but far fewer. It also seemed very authentic and not too dumbed down or Americanized. I ordered the salt and pepper shrimp as an appetizer, which was straight forward but very good. I liked the hot pepper seasoning that came with it. Wish it came with a sauce, but I dipped it in my soup from my entree. For my entree I ordered the beef noodle soup, which was braised beef. The portion was solid, with lots of noodles, and the beef was faaaaantastic, delicious and perfectly cooked to wear it just melts in your mouth. The broth was so good I couldn’t stop eating it when I felt full. I asked to make it extra spicy and the accommodated. I thought the prices were reasonable and the staff were kind and efficient. Service was quick, super cute and clean atmosphere. I’m excited to come back and try some more!!!

Service was pretty good. Food overall was very ok. The thing that bugged me the most was the soup base. It felt like it was water with some sort of powder/ flavoring.

Just discovered this little gem recently. Wheat has very traditionally Chinese Noodle dishes + sides that are very much on par with what you would get in a Chinatown in a bigger city. Highly recommend the braised beef noodle soup. The service here is excellent - the waiters always make sure you have enough napkins and water, while being super friendly and polite (ours even held the door open as we exited). This is a great place for a casual/affordable lunch or dinner.

Service was great, and they even you a reusable takeout bag. Ordered beef with bamboo shoots - portion size was decent, beef was tender, bamboo shoots and overall taste profile was just sort of salty. Mango pomelo sago was good though. I wouldn’t mind coming back and trying the drinks and desserts. I was initially concerned about food poisoning given the other reviews, but I didn’t have any GI issues after eating here ….

The noodles are so good!! I tried a different kind of noodles each time I came here: beef tendon noodle soup, crispy minced beef noodles, and chicken gizzard noodle - all are good!! The chili they used remind me of authentic Sichuan sauce. The best thing is their service: one of our friends had birthday that day, we asked them if they have desserts that we can use for birthday, the server made a cake for us on the spot, they didn’t have to but they went above and beyond to celebrate our friend’s birthday and it tasted great!!

Found this new restaurant on 9th street today, and it just became my new favorite in the area. I ordered braised beef tendon noodle soup and crispy beef with chillies noodle. I asked for extra chillies, and it had a pretty authentic Szechuan taste. The food was very delicious and authentic. Will definitely go there again!

This was a wonderful new boba/dessert/noodle shop! Would definitely visit again. Ratings below: - Scallion pancake: 9/10 love the texture and flavor. I usually don’t like this at other places (like Taipei 101) but I would order it here again. Wished it came with a dipping sauce. - Mango grapefruit 8/10 refreshing and has fresh grapefruit inside but the mango flavor could be improved. Tasted a little powdery. It’s very light in sweetness compared to the other boba shops but I prefer that (I usually order 50% less at other places). - Minced beef noodles - 9/10 Beef was well seasoned, not too light or too salty and the garlic flavor was very strong which we loved! Generous portion as well. Noodles felt a bit over cooked is all. - Pork floss cake 7/10 It wasn’t bad but I’m not sure if I would get it again. It’s very small and had a sponge cake texture with a cream in the middle. Flavor was good but brecotea has one that is much better.

Pretty decent place. Would come again to try other things on the menu. 5 stars because it is pretty solid in the setting of a somewhat limited Chinese food scene in Durham. Appetizers: -The chicken with szechuan chili oil was my favorite. Lots of bold flavor, chicken was a great texture. -The scallion pancake was delightfully crispy with delicate chewy layers inside. I would have liked to see a more pronounced scallion flavor and a touch more salt. Noodle Soups: -Spicy & sour noodle soup and pork belly noodle soup were both pretty tasty. Noodles had a decent texture. I really wanted to try the beef noodle soup but they were out so I will have to return again.

Nice noodle bar, not super large, but we did not feel too close to the other tables. The soups we got were very tasty, we would definitely go again. I very much enjoyed the pork belly soup and my kiddo enjoyed the minced chicken noodle. Service was a tad slow, but it is a new restaurant so it is expected, and was not too bad.

A new restaurant. We went there during their soft opening so everything is 10% off. We ordered the pumpkin pancake, braised beef noodle soup, and chickpea & minced pork noodle soup. They are delicious, though the size is a bit small. The foods on the menu are mainly noodles and appetizers, plus drinks and desserts. Overall a nice new place to eat noodles.

Upon recommendation by Bites of the Bull, we had dinner at Wheat. We are sad Secrets closed but the addition of Wheat to Ninth Street continues the tradition of great Asian cuisine. Walking into the restaurant, we are greeted by a remodeled interior that has a low keyed chic vibe. The restaurant almost has an Asian cafe feel with a cold display case that housed homemade desserts prepared daily so make sure to get there early. We quickly picked out our desserts before even being seated. Once seated, we perused the menu. The menu is bilingual and a quick glance of the restaurant had mostly Asian patrons. Clearly they knew just how good Wheat is. We started with appetizers of fried dough with condensed milk and scallion pancakes. Both offerings were hot and delicious. For the entrees, I settled upon the House Special Pork Belly Noodle Soup and the husband got noodles with scallion oil and a side of minced chicken with mushrooms. The soup was rich and flavorful while the seared pork belly melted in my mouth. The minced chicken with mushrooms was well seasoned and paired expertly with the noodles and scallion oil. With full bellies, we opted to take our desserts home. The cheesecake was decadent and very rich while the strawberry cake was light and delicious. All in all, Wheat exceeded all expectations so much so we decided to return for another meal while eating the first.

The Pickle & Pork noodle soup was really delicious! Not sure if the noodles were handmade or not but it tasted extremely fresh and flavorful. Went to the restaurant with my family a day before Christmas Eve and we all loved it especially the crispy Portuguese tart, reminded me of the one I had in Europe. Overall a very pleasant experience and wouldn’t hesitate to come again.

Happened to walk in on the opening day, didn’t expect such a big portion especially with the price. Awesome food and welcoming staff, highly recommend the egg tart and the braised beef noodle soup. Definitely would return :)
