Urban Axes Durham
Phone: (984) 377-3697
At the Durham location of the small chain that helped popularize axe throwing as a social and team-building activity as well as a competitive sport, book a throwing session for a group or stop by during daily walk-in hours. Enjoy a beer, wine or cider at the bar (no hard liquor on account of, you know, the axes being thrown). Kids 12 and up who are accompanied by an adult are welcome to join except on Fridays and Saturdays after 5 p.m. Closed-toe shoes are required.

Plenty of parking across the street, but it is pay by the hour with a website service. Everything was clean and well maintained and easy access to the main building. The owner and staff are super excited for everyone and it was a blast learning how to throw the axes. Shout out to our coaches, Z and Bradley, so much fun hanging out with them. This was a great experience and I would return, and I highly recommend checking them out. Also they sell alcoholic drinks as well as wine. -
Went to a private group setting and the service was amazing!! It was my first time throwing axes and the Instructor, Brad, was very informative and fun and made it a great first experience! Will definitely come back! -
We went with our work group to Urban Axes and had an absolutely amazing time! Bradley was a fantastic coach—he walked us through how to throw safely and effectively, gave us plenty of time to warm up and practice, and then organized brackets and kept score so the whole experience felt like a real competition.
What really stood out was the level of engagement. At other places we’ve been, you get a quick 5‑minute coaching session and then you’re left on your own. Here, Bradley stayed involved the entire time, which made it so much more fun and interactive. The combination of great coaching, friendly competition, and a lively atmosphere made this outing a success. Highly recommend! -
Ample room for a large party. Bradley was great at explaining the rules as well as keeping score. I like the way that the instructor is with you the whole time you're there. Their input on your technique, as well as being a third-party judge, really comes in handy for those who are competitive. There is no hard liquor, only beer and wine. You can bring your own food for other places, but not drinks. -
Really cool spots for a few hours of fun. They serve a great selection of local beers and liquid death water. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and they follow all the required safety guidelines. Definitely worth a visit!
