First time visitor at the River Church and all I can say is, what a ‘powerful’ service. I loved the flow/move of God at the 11am service. It was uplifting and refreshing and I was so blessed to have been there. My only issue/concern is how very loud the music was. Love the music ministry, but for those who deal with tinnitus (like my mom), or those who struggle with other hearing issues, or have sensitive hearing like babies and children, the loudness of the noise, although joyful, was challenging to get through. Earplugs are definitely needed when you visit here. Last, although many would not have necessarily known who the visitors were today, with the exception of the brother at the door, the experience was missing warm and friendly greetings that would have welcomed unfamiliar faces to this Church. Showing and feeling love (not just to the people you know) is something that is desperately needed and necessary.

I love my church, my Bishop and Pastor Karla. Atmosphere is great. Definitely family here.

Great church. Friendly people with warm hugs and genuine hearts. We visited here during a family member's baby christening. It was an awesome service from worship to closing. Pastor gave a dynamic word! Blessed experience!!

The River is the example of Gods church. From bishop Godbee to the entire church body the flow of love and service are genuine. Thank you for the love!

My visit to this church occurred months ago, if not a year. We were welcomed with warmth, friendliness and kindness. That’s about where the positive experience ended. We had a baby with us and it was extremely loud. We sat in the back after spending time in a sitting area around the restroom. As we listened to the pastor, I was taken aback by the fact he talked more about his personal experiences than the word of the Bible. He mentioned growing up with people who are now famous, the expensive car he drives and pricey clothes he wore and how you can’t dress like him if you have children to raise. He stressed the importance of seeking a spouse if you didn’t have one - not something I cared about hearing as a thriving single parent, out of an abusive marriage. He mentioned that people should band together to take an insurance policy out on a family member if they abuse substances. He talked about Disney having “an agenda” (presumably in reference to their positive takes on homosexuality?)..and he said, “WHAT ABOUT OUR AGENDA?” which was met with cheers and applause. What did that even mean?! At this point, we tried to get up and leave and were asked to sit back down. That was disturbing. How this church exists in a progressive city like Durham is beyond me. The 5 star reviews make it scary to think so many support these “teachings”.
