Hands down, Succotash is the closest restaurant you'll get to New Orleans, LA (NOLA) cooking and decor!!! Seraphine's is a close second but it is more upscale, date-night eatery. My family and I ate here on a Saturday night with no reservation. We were fortunate to get in because within 15 minutes, the place began filling up quick. We learned that you can reserve a table but it is on their website. We found parking with no issues. There is seating inside as well as outside. The decor is everything NOLA. From the beads, fleur de lis, paintings, photos, beer (Abita), potato chips, Edison lights, etc. They nailed it with NOLA vibes. Regarding the dining experience, it was everything. I was impressed from the jump that they provide filtered water, not tap. The ice was also purified using UV lighting. We usually bring our water when we dine but this was great that they default provide filtered water. Their menu has staple foods from LA with the exception of crab cakes, crawfish, or crawfish boil. Potato salad was also missing. Hopefully they can make that happen but if they do, they gotta use Blue Plate brand mayonnaise. For dinner we ordered the following: - Red beans and rice with French bread (Jasmine or basmati rice may have been used but it was good) - Catfish (Farm-raised spread filet, light breading) - Smoked brisket with smash potatoes - Fried shrimp with a spicy remoulade-style sauce - Broiled broccoli with shaved cheese and lemon - Key Lime Pie (brown sugar and graham cracker crust with the key lime custard containing bits of lime peel; definitely homemade) The food was hot, seasoned well, not too spicy, and was filling without feeling gluttonous afterwards. Well worth the money and we DEFINITELY be returning. For what it's worth, we recently went to NOLA and had some great LA cuisine. Succotash was spot on to tasting like we were back there!!! As an added bonus, we learned that live music was being played as well. There was no cover but I'd imagine you're gonna eat while there. They had a three-seater couch in the back where the band played and it was really cool. Not sure how long they've been doing music back there but from the couch, it isn't the easiest to see the band due the the tables in front. No biggie but just a note. Overall, we definitely intend to go back. They have a brunch menu and their beignets are only sold on Sundays, so we have to see what that is like. If you're looking for a solid restaurant that is not big-chain, has good flavored food, and want to support locally, COME TO SUCCOTASH!!!!

This is my third time visiting Succotash. They consistently feature high quality live music that is often danceable. The food is well seasoned and served with flair and imagination. Everybody who works there acts like they are part of a team that’s customer oriented. There is free parking too. It’s just a good vibe all around. The only downside is no ABC license, but the beer list has NOLA beers that are hard to find so… We will be returning, for sure.

My wife and I have been here twice now and this is where I chose to go have a birthday lunch and no regrets. We have been there when the weather was sunny and warm and sat outside both times in a comfortable area. The inside looks cozy and we will be back and want to catch some of the live music. We had the same waiter both times there and he was very pleasant and attentive. The first time we were there, there were two gentleman playing some jazz and that was a bonus. And we have liked everything we have eaten there which included the smoked brisket plate, smoked brisket empanada, succotash, seafood gumbo, coleslaw and a couple of things I'm sure I've forgotten. It was all very tasty. The beer and wine selection offers plenty to choose from but maybe not the largest selection. Parking is adequate and the bathroom was clean. We are thankful it is close to us and we will be back.

Highly recommend! We had their app hot honey cauliflower and our entrees were the red drum (fish of the day) and brisket plate. All were stellar! Service was friendly and attentive. I'll definitely return when I'm next in the area.

You should definitely try Succotash Southern and Creole restaurant in Durham. You also want to have a reservation since it doesn’t have a lot of tables. I will be recommending this place to clients, friends & family. Staff was on top of everything. We will be back!

Found this Gem by accident and it definitely didn't disappoint. I just wanted lunch and ended up eating an entire pint of their delicious succotash w/small pieces of brisket, and followed it up with the delicious 🍋 cake topped with lemon, blueberries and strawberries. Presented nicely and it tasted fabulous!!! Loved it 🤸🏾‍♀️

A small local restaurant I’ve dined at many times, specializing in southern/creole cooking. Had their special - blackened red drum over a cheese grits cake with grilled asparagus, topped with crab meat, shrimp and crawfish. OMG! It was the best thing I’ve ever had there. Wait staff is friendly and prompt. Highly recommended this local eatery!

I had the fresh catch special (grouper) with grilled asparagus and a side salad, and the fish was SO GOOD. Really tender and sizeable portions for the price. Would have loved for there to be a baked or non-fried option for the potatoes, but the vegetable sides were good.

Have been here probably ten times time and it’s ALWAYS incredible, dine in or as takeaway. The staff is always super kind and attentive. It’s a smaller space but never feels crowded or super loud like some spaces and their patio is great. The prices undoubtedly match the quality of the food and the food is consistently great and they have a nice beer selection to boot. They host fun events on the weekends and seem to be doing more and more to support community involvement. Really can’t say enough good things about this place.

Great food and service. I thought the live music would be too loud to have conversation but it was perfect. Best fried green tomatoes I’ve had. Companion had the smoked brisket plate which was also excellent

The food here is usually pretty good. Our entrées were pretty good however, the catfish could’ve been a little less moist on the inside. Also, please consider making the fried green tomatoes, a side versus entrée. The beans and rice are always good as well as the gumbo. I also had the speciality tea which that day was a agave basil mix. It was surprisingly delicious.
