Absolutely delicious food. Ribs so tender they fall off the bones, tasty sides and lots of variety. Nice touch having a band playing some local tunes. Definitely coming back here next time I'm in Raleigh!

This is one of those must try places you don't want to miss! Everything on the menu is great you will not be disappointed. The parking can be a little tricky at times but it's worth the hassle for sure. Don't be worried if there's a line the employees are very efficient and you will not be waiting long.

Two meat platter holey cow that's a lot of food. Smoked Turkey was some of the best I have had and the hush puppies were good too. Very generous servings and decently priced. Poor parking around lunch but I got a spot close (probably just lucky) as many others were circling trying to also find a spot.

Had the chicken and I highly recommend it. Tender, moist and a great flavor. Potato salad is also fantastic. Good, quick service. Will be back.

We got the 3 meat platter with turkey, shredded pork and beef. They give you so many hush puppies! The sides we chose were baked beans and the cheesy spinach. The spinach was surprisingly delicious, and the beans and sauces were awesome. The meats were all very good. They had Cheerywine soda, which I liked. No line when we came in (even though there were plenty of people inside eating), and we had quick friendly service. Definitely will be coming back.

This is you typical counter service restaurant, with a chalkboard menu. Can’t get a better family take out deal than from here. Food is always amazing, and while there are a few healthier options, you go here when you want a calorie buster. The fried okra is usually perfection, but this visit they were a little dry. It’s forgivable considering the service here is always A+, the same folks have been working and running it for years and that type on consistency has kept me coming back for the past 10 years. Easy. Quick. Delicious. You will need a nap afterwards.

Brought my family who was visiting here. We all definitely enjoyed our meals. Three people had the St Louis ribs which were well flavored and more then tasty! I personally had the smoked Turkey which was moist and delicious. Each person had some yummy sides which included fresh coleslaw, homemade mac and cheese, seasoned bake beans, collard greens and of course to die for hush puppies!

I thought I reviewed this, but maybe not. The Original Q Shack is vastly superior to the other Q Shack location. This is currently my favorite BBQ place anywhere, and also has quite tasty hush puppies. If you want parking, you might have to arrive later on in the day, as it gets crowded and some of the adjacent lots tow. The music playlist has recently switched from bluegrass to classic country, which is also quite the improvement.

I eat here @ twice a week. Consistently great food with generous portions. Great wings and catfish Fridays. Eat in or take out. Picnic tables outside as well as heated porch.

The food is delicious, the banana pudding could've been better. Tonight, unfortunately... I found a long black strand of hair in my ribs. Maybe they should start wearing hairnets? I was so disappointed and I understand this can happen at times but wearing hairnets will definitely help with that.

I live in Houston, Texas. So, I think of myself as a BBQ connoisseur. Ha ha, I mean that with all levity. Anyway, I grew up in Central North Carolina. NC’s barbecue in relation to the rest of the country is sad. Especially barbecue in TX. The only similarity b/n the barbecue in NC compared to TX is that it is cooked on a smoker. But, this original Q place is spot on when it considers itself a BBQ joint. The brisket is moist as is the turkey breast. The half of a chicken was cooked to perfection. I even ate the skin. I usually do not care for the skin on a smoked chicken (the smoke is usually too overwhelming) but this bird was done so well I could not pass it up. The sides were a treat as well. I don’t think I have eaten better flavored collard greens. I will visit again when I return to NC.

First a disclaimer - I am a Texas BBQ fan and they have the best. That said, everything here is terrific. Love the sides too. Best BBQ in Durham hands down. 2021 update - No longer 5 stars. We took our daughter and parents for a birthday dinner on Friday. I had the worst brisket I've ever had. Fatty all the way through. I should have sent it back and gotten something else but I was embarrassed. My father in law got blue cheese and jalapeno grits. They were practically inedible. Whatever has gone wrong here, please fix it.

Its been awhile since we last visited the Q shack. And it was just as great on our return. We had the moist BBQ Brisket with Mac n cheese, beans and sweet tea. Down right excellent. The restaurant was busy for a Thursday afternoon. The atmosphere is friendly and clean. Always a great place to eat. Very unique place, you wont be disappointed.

Delicious food!! Fast service! Love the atmosphere except they have a moose head on the wall and there are no moose in Texas or NC. But other than that food was great and the service was awesome. I've had real Texas BBQ and it was a pretty close quality! Delicious and worth the wait and money!

Ribs were great and I liked how they were nice and tender without having too much fat. Mac and cheese and greens were also top notch. However, briskets were very disappointing. They were definitely dry by the time I got home (15mins) and I couldn’t eat them without a drink. If you are visiting here to see what the hype is all about, I recommend getting the ribs platter.

Was able to order ahead. Food was ready when I arrived. And the food was DELICIOUS!!! Employees were helpful and friendly. First time here, will definitely return! We got the three meat combo plate and a three sides plate. Did not care for the rub on the chicken, but that is simply a personal preference. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly, very juicy! The jalapeno cheddar sausage was the bomb!

We’ve gotten takeaway several times now this year, and while I really miss dining in and the cute little trays and baskets and the 1950s diner decor, the takeaway aspect of things is working really well and it was RAMMED tonight with people collecting curbside and placing takeaway orders. But it all runs really efficiently in this “new normal.” Takeaway food benefits from a short stay in the oven to crisp it all up again once you get home, but it’s really well packaged with the fried stuff wrapped in foil to keep it from getting soggy. My parents love the pulled pork butt, and we all love the creamed spinach and fried okra. The portions are huge and they often share one plate between them. I don’t eat meat, so I usually get the “three sides” plate which comes with hush puppies and is really great value. However.... Friday tip: they have the most delicious catfish on Fridays! Order early because it runs out sometimes, but oh boy is it good.

I was referred here by a lady at Duke Cancer Clinic when I called for an appointment. We LOVED the food here! I got the regular plate of ribs with collards and mac/cheese. All of it was excellent. The chile rub on the ribs added a great extra zing. Husband had chopped pork butt with potato salad and bbq beans. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite! Thanks to all the staff for a terrific late lunch. Update: We were back at Duke Cancer Clinic for 2 checkups on 8/31/20. Since there was a time gap between appointments we decided to get lunch delivered rather than pay twice for parking. We checked the menu, called here to check if they delivered or if we needed to use an app. We were very disappointed to find the Q Shack is now closed on Mondays. I certainly understand the need to have days off but wonder about the loss of customers on Mondays. The Cancer Clinic generally sets a lot of appointments on Mondays, mine have always been Mondays for 4 years. We drive from Virginia so we aren't here often, sure did miss those ribs! I will check in March anyway to see if the hours have changed again, can't give you up!

I loved the experience of this little BBQ joint. We where originally going to pick up and eat somewhere else, but the outside area was to good to pass up, so we ended up just taking our to-go order to a table outside. Really great food, although the BBQ sauce wasn't the best for me. The portions are shockingly large. I had a pulled pork sandwich, there was soo much pork that I couldn't even fit in on the bread! The staff was friendly and we didn't have any issues with them. I hope to stop in and try some other food in the near future.

This is a must stop spot in Durham. Parking can be a little tough as there aren’t many spots and this place is super busy. One thing that isn’t tough is the pork. There isn’t a bad side item on the menu (trust me, we’ve tried them all) but my favorite is the creamed spinach or the jalapeño deviled eggs. You get really great tasting meat, large portions, and tons of hush puppies. Definitely try this place out.

Ribs were so tender, meat slipped off of the bone. Sides were really good too. I tried the hush puppies, fried okra, cole slaw, green beans, and french fries. Service was quick, order at the counter and by the time you get to the register your food is ready!! The portions are very generous, a regular rib plate was two meals for me.

Q Shack is my favorite BBQ joint in the area for a few pretty simple reasons - delicious BBQ in big portions, fair prices, and quick service. Their chopped brisket hits the spot every time and I haven’t tried a side I don’t like. Great for a quick lunch or picking up a big meal for the family.

I can't say enough good about Q Shack. The food was amazing, especially the brisket and the potato salad. This is the genuine article folks, my mom and I tried three meats and four sides, all were great. Also good local beers in cans....and recycling! It was the first place I've seen down here with recycling bins. I was so happy. I also want to note that, during this global pandemic, they are really taking things seriously...everyone was wearing masks unless they were eating. The staff was regularly sanitizing their hands. There was plenty of outdoor seating and space to feel comfortable eating without your mask on. There were also huge fans, they kept me cool AND they make a big difference in the viral load people are exposed to (if an infected person were to enter the space). I'm just hear while my aunt is having surgery at Duke, if I were local I would eat at this place at least once month. Fairly priced too, for excellent BBQ in the middle of a meat shortage. Go get some!!!

First stop on our bbq road trip. BBQ had very good flavor. The vinegar sauce was good, but the hit was the dark sauce with a little spice. We may have been the first customers of the day, but their attitude towards us could have been better. Thanks for the great Q.

First time here. COVID safety guidelines were being followed well. I ordered the 2-meat combo (brisket and jalapeno sausage) with chili and deviled eggs to-go. The food didn't take long at all! The meat was amazing. The brisket had just enough fat to keep the meat tender. Had a great smokey flavor. Sausage was also prepared and cooked well. Juicy with a little kick! The brisket chili was well done, but could use a little more seasoning (for my own preference). The Jalapeno Deviled eggs were a nice side item too. I will go back and highly recommend others give this place a try!

Very good brisket, green beans, and hush puppies! When they say hush puppies are included, they actually give you a good portion and not just 2-3 small ones. They give you like 8-9 good ones. Very happy with the experience. Staff was friendly and food was very good with a large portion!

Great Carolina BBQ spot. I had the pulled pork sandwich with Slaw on top, which came with hush puppies and a side (I chose fries). The sandwich was awesome, and had the distinct Carolina BBQ taste you want! Fries were seasoned well, and those hush puppies were the best!

Absolutely spectacular and delicious food! I’m accustomed to high-quality BBQ, and the brisket was top-notch and probably the best I’ve ever enjoyed. I didn’t love the “big beans” in the BBQ baked beans, but still had a great taste and flavor. Just terrific, and I look forward to many more visits!

This place has soom great BBQ. Especially the brisket. My wife just raves over their brisket. She says it has great flavor and just melts in your mouth. She usually pairs this with fried okra and fries. I usually have the pulled pork with potato salad and baked beans. I have even had the multiple meat plates as well. Good for those that just can't decide on one. This restaurant is a corner business as it has a road on front and rear and parking can be a little tricky, especially if you go when they are the busiest.

The chili beef brisket is absolutely amazing. You get so much food, we could have easily split a regular plate. I liked the pork ribs a lot, but the seasonings on the brisket was just so good that I'd have to get that next time. The fried okra, Mac and cheese, and collards were great as well. Five out of five for sure.

Q Shack catered our wedding this past weekend through Southern Harvest Catering. Everything was seriously amazing. The food was incredible and everyone gave us the biggest compliments. The wait staff and delivery staff did an incredible job. We were so pleased with everything and couldn't have asked for anything better. We truly recommend Q Shack for anyone's special event. Good value and good food. Pretty packed on a hot summer Tuesday evening. Meat was delicious, served very quickly, and at more than fair prices. I had a pork plate with Cole slaw and jalapeño deviled eggs for $11. There are a few beers and soft drinks to choose from. The staff was correct. Lots of places to sit, indoors (which has air conditioning) and outdoors (which is covered but can be pretty hot).

Maybe not "correct" NC BBQ, but it's definitely the best BBQ left in Durham... Big portions, great sides, great meat, and great tea. Q Shack raises the bar for what a BBQ restaurant in this area should be, and (so far) isn't just resting on their laurels like so many other barbecue restaurants. Try the ribs and jalapeño cheddar sausage!

This place gets a solid five stars. It helped my anxious sole to have the large menu display outside the store. So many options, it was heaven. I recommend sharing a plate if traveling with a friend or partner! Hush puppies were out of this world. I think the secret is the shape—you taste a perfect blend of crunchy and chewy. I wish there was a Baby Back Rib option instead of St. Louis, but still so good!

All we can say is WOW! If you are trying to decide where to get BBQ in Durham, this is it!!! This was an amazing meal. We got very large potions of both meat and sides. It was incredibly tasty and tender meat. Everything was very enjoyable. We will look forward to returning again. You will not regret stopping here to eat. We are very big eaters, had a mid-afternoon meal, took some home, and it still kept us full until we went to bed at 11:00! We didn’t have to wait in line at that time, but this place seems very busy!

Here on training in the area and this little place was just what we wanted. Plenty of outdoor covered patio seating and uncovered options. Also seating inside although on the smaller side was roomy enough. The food is what stole the show and their brisket and chopped pork legs were the group favorites. Good Carolina southern style bbq was delicious. The sides were good as well like the hush puppies and Mac & cheese but the banana pudding was just excellent. Cheers!!
