Mothers & Sons Trattoria
Phone: (919) 294-8247
Find handmade pasta inspired by chef Josh DeCarolis’s Italian nonna at Mothers & Sons Trattoria downtown, where our best recommendation is to fully go for it with a four-course, Italian-style meal with salads and bruschetta to start, followed by a pasta or two to share, a hearty protein entrée with vegetable sides and dessert. You may overdo it, but an after-dinner espresso or aperitif will set you straight. Experiment with the extensive selection of amaro to aid your digestion.

Get the Dunderi (gnocchi)! This place had one of the best pasta dishes I've had in the triangle in terms of uniqueness and flavor. You won't find a dish like this one, squash, brown butter sauce (I think), and the Tagliatelle al Ragu was also phenomenal. Burschetta was good, arancini was good, desert of Panna cotta was also good. Overall top 5 Italian restaurant in the triangle, a must-try if you love Italian and like to try new places! Alexander was a fantastic server and I barely got a pic of our food before it was gone! -
Mothers and Sons is a truly enjoyable dining experience. Amazing food, staff, service, and drinks are the stars. The restaurant is in Durham style and very beautiful. Cannot wait to come back. -
This is just great spot for dinner’s anniversary and family dinners. Me and my partner loved it Customer service was great, Crispy Octopus are must try they are super delicious! I changed my pasta noodle little bit it was perfect for me and I love how it tasted. It was busy even on Monday Night and you might have to pay for parking before 7pm. Overall I would it 9/10! -
I have been wanting to go here for years and was so disappointed . The food was average at best. The Rigatoni and eggplant was basically Penne and sauce, very acidic sauce wth maybe two small pieces of eggplant. It was like something you would order off the kids menu at Olive Garden. My wife’s eggplant parm came out barely warm and had a slight burnt taste to it. Our server was great, but no rush to go back. -
I have mixed feelings about this restaurant because on one hand I felt the food was great - delicious cocktails, handmade pasta, amazing pana cotta…BUT the servers were almost comically unfriendly. From the moment we sat down, it felt like they actively did not want us there. When I asked about the drink special, the server jerked her thumb backwards at a sign that said “ask your server about our spritz special” lol
We were here for a business dinner and as soon as we left, all we could talk about was what felt like a weirdly hostile environment for what should be a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I think an attitude adjustment would have made this experience much more enjoyable, because as I said, the food was actually pretty great.
