Little India is a fantastic spot for stocking up on all kinds of dry desi goods. They have a wide selection of spices, lentils, rice, snacks, and pantry staples at very fair prices, and I can usually find exactly what I’m looking for. It’s especially great if you cook South Asian food regularly and want variety without breaking the bank.
The only reason for four instead of five stars is that the fresh produce can be a bit hit or miss. Sometimes it’s perfectly fine, other times not quite as fresh as I’d hoped.
Overall though, it’s a reliable go-to for dry goods and worth a visit. -
I’m not sure why there have been so many negative reviews lately for this store. I think a lot of it might come down to misunderstandings or communication style differences. The owner may not be overly talkative or greet you like you’re in a 5-star hotel, but they do their job well. Perhaps customer interaction could be improved a bit, but personally, I don’t see it as a major issue.
As an Indian, I’ve been to many stores back home — some experiences were great, some not so much — and that’s just how it goes. You come here, get what you need, or leave if it’s not for you.
I honestly couldn’t stop laughing at the “Real Indian Vegetarian Store” and “Halal (so it should be Pakistani!)” comment — what even? Why such labels? Also, if you’re that strict about it, why come to the U.S. in the first place? India is not a “no-beef-eating nation” — a quick Google search or a little dive into Indian history, culture, and cuisine would clear that up.
Sharing this photo of the bangles we found here — haven’t seen them anywhere else in this area! -
Had a great time shopping for sweets, snacks and more for my little Diwali party. They had a great and wonderful selection, and was very comforting to see as it is hard to find an environment like this in the Durham area. Would highly recommend! -
Convenient location. Small store but has what you need from an Indian store. Plus they have fresh samosas! -
This store is bad. It’s small, the food isn’t fresh, and the cashier is hard to understand.
And smelly
