Nothing physically wrong with the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean and I had a great sleep on a comfortable mattress. Pretty decent sized flat screen, but the only remote available was one that came with the tv, so selection of channels or services on the television were next to impossible. If you're going to provide cable service, perhaps you should include a cable remote. Breakfast was the usual tasteless Fair although there's a waffle maker and biscuits and gravy both of which were pretty tasty. Overall perfectly acceptable stay. I'd say the outstanding features were comfortable room with a comfortable bed and friendly helpful staff, at least a few of whom spoke enough English that we could communicate. The fellow at the front desk was lovely. And a discounted rate found on booking.com made the room reasonable rather than laughably expensive. The addition fees, such as fees for bringing a pet, or late or early checkout, are insulting and absurd. Also, the indoor pool across a small and attractive courtyard was unaccountably "closed- seasonal". It's 65° out this morning. Not quite sure what's going on there. But whatever. -
Terri Hodges is a terrible lazy manager who lies through her teeth without any guilty conscience. Even her staff reflects her lack of moral ethical values and just as lazy.
I checked in late at night and the staff at the front was just plain rude and she seemed as she didn't want to be there. She assigned a room but when I went up there, the room door was unlocked and the room itself didn't have any lights on. I didn't want to take any risk of going in to an unlocked room so I had to go down to change the room to a more secure one. The front dest staff didn't even feel bad about the situation and didn't even bother apologizing.
I had initially booked for a week because I was in Durham to attend to my dying sister, thinking I would be there for a week to help her through her chemo. But she sadly passed away shortly after I had arrived. I told the front office staff about the situation and she told me to talk to Terri Hodge.
I informed Terri about my situation the next morning and had informed her that I only needed to stay for three days instead of an entire week. She told me to have the third party which I booked the reservation from, email her and that she would make the adjustment. I checked with her on a daily basis, (Thur, Fri, & Sat), and she even checked the emails while I was standing there.
On the day of check out, Sunday, I check out with Dee at the front desk, and told him of the situation and he said he would check me out.
Fast forward to the following week.
The third party agency, Chase Travel, emailed Terri Hodge, but now she's changing her words and lying to them that she informed me that she won't extend a refund for the days that I didn't stay. Then why would she even ask me to have them email her? When I called her to ask her, she started to yell at me then she just hung up. I tried calling her again, but she just kept on hangin up.
I myself is in hospitality industry and people like Terri shouldn't be in the industry is she in incompetent, plus has calloused heart.
Oh and the room itself is very old and outdated. I highly discourage anyone to stay at this hotel until Terri retires. -
Location is perfect!!! Close to everything.Nice Mexican Restaurant next door you can walk too.Very clean rooms , it was nice, The breakfast was average they had everything you wanted to start your morning off right.Waffles, eggs ,sausage, yogurt, fruit.Id stay here again .The pet fee was minimal 30 bucks. The hotel was quite and clean .The pool was cool and the outside area was great. On a scale of 1to 10 I’d give them a strong 10.I would stay here again in a heartbeat -
I used to live in Durham and passed by this hotel many times, but this was my first time staying here for a night.
Before booking, I checked the reviews and saw it had a 4.2-star rating on Google. Most reviewers mentioned that the hotel was clean, but my experience was completely different.
The property is very old and poorly maintained. The chairs were heavily worn, the carpet was damaged with hole, and there was mold in the bathroom.
However, the worst part was the strong smell of marijuana throughout the entire hotel, including the hallways and my room. It made the stay very unpleasant.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel. -
Staff was very friendly. My biggest complaint would be the cleanliness of our room. We arrived around 7pm. I always do a walk through and wipe down before settling. One Clorox wipe across the desk I was immediately disgusted. The tub had hair in it. Dirty bathroom floor and hair in the towels. We were able to receive a new room with no problem. Second room was clean with a more pleasant smell. Breakfast was ok. All in all the stay was bearable. I would say that I’d try it again it but upon checkout we were greeted or should I say sent off by a roach crawling along the push bar of the side entry door 🤢
