Overview
It's a Southern thing is for people who don’t play around when it comes to brunch. With an extensive brunch menu, you can order hearty items like "Pete’s Fat Kid Breakfast Sandwich" with a toasted brioche bun filled with pulled pork, bacon, breakfast sausage, fried egg, cheese and bourbon honey BBQ sauce. Still hungry? Try the flapjack charcuterie board, chicken and waffle skewers or shrimp and grits. The lunch and dinner menu is equally full of personality and flavor.

Very laid back atmosphere with food that will stick to your ribs. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits. My wife liked the St. Louis-style fried ribs with herb potatoes. We both had collard greens, which definitely lived to the hype. Highly recommend trying this place out! -
If you want to enjoy your meal, don't take their 1:30 reservation offering on a Sunday. I drove 2.5 hrs to meet my sons and their girlfriends for lunch and we went here.
We sat at 1:25pm outside on a gorgeous Sunday. The 1st thing they say to us is the kitchen closes at 145 and you have to leave by 245pm. Not, "hi", "how are you", welcome".
Then she came back with menus, no utensils, no water (asked 3x for). She still did no introduction and was like what do you want. I wanted to get up and leave but we were there, and it was lovely outside. My 1 son was not gonna make it by 145 so we ordered for them.
Food was decent.
Very rushed.
Wait staff was aweful. Probably why on top of their menu said 15% gratuity added to every bill.
Well, the bill came and of course, I forgot about the 15% gratuity added. Again, very rushed by the staff so I didn't look at bill, my mistake, and I added 20% gratuity.
We were told to leave the patio outside , around the back very abruptly because they were cleaning (we left before 245 because we were trying to be respectful). We had to use restrooms but they wouldn't let us..
So on a $200 bill in less than 45 minutes, these very rude waitstaff made $70. If a restaurant is going to include gratuity, they should at least remind the person when they bring the bill, "gratuity included, any extra would be appreciated". Or be nice!
The food was good, but there are a lot of amazing restaurants in Durham and I'd skip this one. -
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Food was amazing! Biscuits had a crispy buttery golden outside with cloud like fluffy delicious inside. The raspberry jam was pure raspberry flavor and not all sugar. The best home fries we have had- tender chunks with wonderful seasoning that was NOT spicy just incredibly flavorful. Each bite was crispy with a slight crunch as home fries should be. The historic building added charm. We sat on the small patio that overlooked the lawns of the apartments within the same building complex. We live an hour away, but we will return for weekend brunch or dinner in the future. It is so worth the drive and the prices were very good for all you get in portions and flavor! This is a must go! -
5 pm reservation for my mom's ok mom's birthday. We were the only group for the first 30 minutes and even though we were a handful I am sure our server was amazing.
I had the pulled pork which was juicy but not watery with fried okra and collard greens. To me the greens could have been cooked longer as they were still quite firm but the taste was on point. Everyone else had varying dishes from the blackened chicken mac n cheese to grilled chicken salad, fried chicken salad, shrimp and grits, chicken wings, chicken n' biscuits, patty melt/fries and Mac n cheese, roasted potatoes, and cheesy grits. There was also frickles(fried pickles), crab dip w pita points, and fried okra for appetizers. I tried a bite of the patty melt and it was really, really good.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is decorated very well. There are tvs in different places for sports or other events. -
After visiting the botanical garden, we were famished. Many places weren't open because of Easter. They were. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was great. I had the blt (fried green tomato) with home fries. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were large. Gratuity is automatically included. Tons of street parking available.
