Happy China sits ready to cure your Chinese food cravings. Sure they’ve got the usual suspects like General Tso’s Chicken and Pork Lo Mein, but the real treat lies in their Sichuan specialties. Sichuan wontons in red chili oil, Dan Dan noodles, and spicy shredded beef are just some of the mouth-tingling dishes that are not to be missed.
With a wide menu selection, quick service, and overall delicious food, Happy China impressed us on our first visit. They made my father’s favorite dish: eggplant in a garlic sauce! The General Tso’s-style dry tofu was also amazing! ⭐️ Their wonton soup, however… I would skip.

This place used to be the spot! Big portions fresh hot food, high quality! Lately it’s not hitting like it used to, but if I’m craving sesame chicken or tsos I’d still come here over most places in the area. I don’t know much about the rest of the menu lately. The chicken, eggs rolls and rangoons were always really good too. One thing I’ll say though just like other Durham Chinese spots if they could master that fried rice!!!! I’d be a regular again.

Had great meals here a few years ago. Right around the pandemic I went and did not enjoy my meal. A few weeks later, I tried it again, and did not have a good experience (things listed as spicy had minimal spice, the hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour, for example). After about a 2 year hiatus, I tried it again. I walked in, abt 30 min after placing my online order, and I had to wait another 15 min to get my take out order of 2 items plus soup. The soup did have a little bit of spice this time, but still no sour. The biggest issue was the I ordered sweet and sour chicken as a main dish. What they gave me was a container of deep fried chicken chunks/nuggets plus a tub of red sweet and sour sauce. No veggies, no pineapple piece, no onions, no peppers, or any other fruit/vegetable. My General Tso's had maybe 3-4 small pieces of broccoli, that's it. It was so incredibly boring and disappointing (and $13). I think I am done with Happy China in Durham.

Happy China Restaurant offers a great dining experience with authentic flavors. The stir-fried pork intestines (溜肥肠) are especially delicious, cooked to perfection with rich and savory seasoning. Highly recommend trying this dish!

i've been here with friends multiple times, and i've absolutely loved it every time. i normally order the Sichuan cuisine dishes and the taste is pretty authentic. you can ask the lovely man at the counter for recommendations on more authentic dishes, they're a must try. everything was served without delay, and the service has always been accommodating, plus the portions are pretty big despite sharing between 4 people

I’ve eaten here many times and the food is so delicious every time. So flavorful and spicy! My favorite is the dry hot pot and the cumin lamb. Really great authentic Chinese food! The manager is also wonderful and so kind and always recommends the best dishes! 10/10 :)

We typically do not post reviews, but not to say anything about this restaurant would be an injustice!! This restaurant is tucked away at the end of 15-501 near University (next to Q Shack and NuvoTaco) and from the outside this restaurant needs a major facelift. It needs major landscaping, lighting and fresh bright paint colors. It actually looks closed down. However, the inside is a different story!! The food here is fabulous!!! The selection is great and very assorted. The portions are also good sized. Did I mention the food was great!!! Incredible selection and not your typical Chinese either. Very fresh tasting with just the right seasoning and sauce. This restaurant should be jam packed every day!
Note to owner, please fix up the outside appearance. Your restaurant is a diamond in the rough!! We will be back often!!!
