Gym Tacos has gained a lot of hype in Raleigh since opening in 2019; lucky for us, they’re bringing their tasty tacos (made with handmade corn tortillas), tortas, tostadas and burritos to the center of the Bull City. Losing longtime former tenant, Pompieri Pizza, was a hit for the area, so it’s nice to see another small local business picking up where they left off. Gym Tacos’ bright, fun and casual atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for happy hour meetups or family-friendly gatherings.

I've seen so many social media posts about "trash can nachos" and really wanted to check it out, so I found Gym Tacos. I went during the day so it was nice and quiet. The restaurant is open and spacious, and the staff were friendly. There were just two of us, and we couldn't even finish it, but it was such a fun and unique experience. Definitely worth trying if you're in the mood for a lot of food.

I went on Saturday night and there were plenty of tables available. I can say the tacos tasted really good. I ordered the asada sope and the asada torta, the al pastor gringa, and horchata water, it was fine, not too sweet. The service was super friendly. It has an authentic Mexican taco flavor.

We got the Taco Azada, Taco Lengua and an Horchata, everything tasted great. The salsas were fantastic, the tortillas felt fresh. The prices were a little steep but you’re in downtown Durham so it’s to be expected. The music was a little loud inside the restaurant, the customer service was very blasé but overall things were good. Would most likely come back if we’re in the area.

Delicious and great people! My husband and I happened upon Gym Tacos while we were out adventuring new places downtown Durham we haven’t tried. The two guys that we talked to were so friendly! We chatted a bit and got to know them and felt so welcome. They are half the reason we will be back! The food was delicious! It all tasted like one of my Abuelos or Tios just whipped up a good meal🌮🫶🏼

Had a really nice first experience. Ordered the shrimp burrito. Portion was nice and I appreciate that it was not greasy. Simple, tasty ingredients. 🙏
