Great food! The breakfast burrito was fantastic and so are their chocolate chip cookies. I will definitely be back.

Amazing sandwiches and desserts. Service is great. I loved all the local food options. Laid back atmosphere. Perfect for relaxing after work or with co-workers for lunch.

Fosters is the best place in Durham! The food is always delicious, the staff is super nice and you can buy all kinds of goodies! Seven Pepper Jelly is one of my top favorite! I highly recommend that if you are in Durham stop by this place and make sure you are supper hungry as you are going to want to eat everything!

The food was really good. I got an Italian sandwich and it had plenty of meat on it and I really liked the hot peppers on there as well. I also had a Blondie and that was delicious too. The place has a warm and welcoming feeling as well. I was there late in the evening and there wasn't many customers so I'm not sure what it's like when it's super busy.

Our first time dining here. The staff were very friendly, we were greeted by multiple people. They have an amazing menu to choose from, salads to sandwiches, breakfast items until 2 PM. Lots of fresh baked cookies, bars, breads, cakes, pies, etc. The lemon coconut and the carrot cake were unbelievable! My husband and I ate the grilled Turkey club sandwich. It's huge! The flavors came together in a magical way. They also have a store located inside at the entry end where you can purchase wine, jellies, mixes, cookbooks, lotions, local honey from Durham county. Can't recommend this place enough! Plenty of parking with overflow spaces in the back of the restaurant. You can eat inside or outside at tables and picnic tables. You are allowed to bring doggies to eat at the outside eating area. Foster's Market does offer beverages in glass bottles and they recycle!

This place is one of my favorites. It’s a one of a kind place and typical of what you might expect in Durham. When you walk in the place for the first time the appearance is a little deceiving. You’ll see old banged up furniture inside and out and just a bit of disorder. But the food is delicious and consistently high quality and fresh. For an idea of the kind of place it is, there used to be an old table on the porch with a drawer. My wife and I would have lunch at that table now and then and one day for no particular reason, we opened the drawer. Inside we found handwritten notes written by patrons going back several years. Some on slips of paper, others on napkins. Many of them were very nice personal notes about their impression of Fosters and sometimes a bit about themselves. We must have spent hours over several visits reading those notes. I always remember them when we have a chance to stop in for a meal.

Great food and service. I love their cookies and other bakery items. Can be pricey but worth it.

We we're visiting Durham for the weekend and tried out Foster's Market for breakfast and we are so happy we did!! We absolutely loved this place. The food was awesome, the staff was kind, and the atmosphere was great. We were also there on a beautiful morning when we could sit outside, which I'm sure greatly impacted out experience. Would definitely go again.

Excellent food, including main course and dessert, most of all. The ambiance is country, at best, but the employees were terrific. Very clean and very creative. Prices were good, especially considering the quality and amount of food.

We enjoyed breakfast food. And some baked goods as well. Food was delicious and coffee was great. Also took some German chocolate cake with us home for later and scones for the drive. They have a big selection of pickled items and books. Also many potential gifts items. Menu can satisfy everyone. I had an avocado toast and it was great with eggs and bacon. My husband and our friend had breakfast sandwiches that they enjoyed. Friendly staff.

I've been going here for years. The food consistently is great. Also, I love the outdoor seating on a nice day. As often as I go here, I actually do not have a go to dish. I almost always order the chef special, which changes. I do enjoy their bread pudding and typically get some for dessert whenever I go. I highly recommend this place. It is one of my absolute favorites in Durham.

Foster’s is so delicious. I don’t know the history but I know they’ve been around for awhile and have established themselves as a staple restaurant in the area. After you decide what you want, go up to any of the staff behind the deli counter and let them know your order. They’ll bring it to you, and there’s indoor and outdoor seating. There are so many fresh ready-to-eat options, there’s something for everyone. The chicken curry salad is my favorite. I’ve had several of the breakfast items as well and they are good. The hot tea selection is also delightful.

Fantastic brunch and desserts! Also some great old time candy and beverages. Looking forward to trying lunch and pastries. Update: The scones are really tasty and that dessert case is truly amazing! Best coconut cake around and the banana pudding it tops. There is also a wine section where you can pick up bottles and I bet they are good as everything else is here. Can’t wait to come back for more! Update 2/19/22: The general set up is the same, but there are noticeably less beverages in the cold case, dry goods and candy. The food selection with breakfast, sandwiches, side dishes, desserts and pastries still abound. There are people eating indoors in the old seating configuration and plenty of outdoor seating. Lots of parking as always which is much better than Guglhupf which is even worse than previously.

All food is made with all local ingredients. Food was excellent! This day I went I had the biscuit sandwich and my friend had the grits option with black beans, pico etc. She said hers was good, however, it was not hot. It was just warm. My biscuit sandwich was okay. Biscuit was good and warm and cheesy but the eggs and bacon were almost cold. I will say this day I went they were Very busy around noon/1pm on a Saturday.

This is an interesting spot that probably has some good food but definitely has some logistical problems. The flow of traffic is very unclear and chaotic with people shouting order names to the inside shop, multiple dining areas, and outdoor dining. It is unclear where you are supposed to order versus pay versus pick up your order. With the shop being busy and everyone milling around in no direction it is easy to miss the “specials” sign at the front, easy to miss the various different areas to buy things (salads vs. drinks vs. bakery vs. shop goods) and easy to get overwhelmed and decide to leave. We were able to order a bagel and grab a bag of day old biscuits to try the place out. Based on first impressions we’re willing to give it another try at a time when it is less busy because the food is probably good, but the experience is confusing enough to not make it top of the list to visit.

Really great environment and good quality food - our party got BLT sandwich, omelet special, huevos rancheros and smoothies- all really good but a little too much ice in the smoothies and since the food all comes out at different times one of the plates was a little cold. A little bit of a commotion when ordering - you go right up to order and then take a seat the servers walk around and call your name to try and find you but I think they should just give each table a number when you order so that makes it easier to find. Overall good!

Been going to Foster’s for over two decades. The excellence of the menu, the homeliness of its vibe and always nice employees rarely changes. If there is one place that could be a ‘home away from home’…anywhere, it would be Foster’s Market. Keep at it. ✌🏽💗🙏🏽

I’ve been to foster’s many times throughout the years, but today’s visit prompted my review. Quinn, the guy who took our order, was so nice and charming! He was delightful, patient, and kind. Also, the breakfast burrito is INCREDIBLE. Simple and delicious with fresh ingredients. Others in my party spoke highly of the French silk pie, the peanut butter cookie, and the cheese/apple sandwich. I will say that sometimes the place is packed with screaming children. BUT that’s just because the environment is so family-friendly, and I know that’s a good thing. Just a head’s up.

First time here and we loved it. We went on Saturday for brunch and even though the parking lot was crowded, the place has so much outdoor seating it didn't feel crowded at all. There's plenty of indoor seating as well. We got avocado toast, a peanut butter bagel, and the farm plate. The biscuit that comes with the farm plate is sooo good! Everything came quick. My son really enjoyed the popsicles they sell inside too. We will definitely be back. I hope to try one of the pies next time.

Fantastic service and food. The large antipasti platter was a huge hit for the vegetarians, and even carnivores gobbled up the vegetable lasagna. The tarragon chicken salad with sliced Granny Smith apples and grapes was delicious. Reasonably priced for the quality and quantities. Will order again!

Good sandwiches. Great strawberry shortcake. Long wait time. We waited by the coffee bar for our lattes. We saw the young man making them so I know they weren’t lukewarm because they sat around. He should have noticed that he didn’t see any steam. After waiting 15 minutes, we decided against returning them and chalked it up as a brunch fail.

Good food, but the most poorly ran ordering system in Durham. You must call your order in outside their front door, then wait on average for 30min for food. You would think they could afford to have a cashier take orders like everywhere else in town. Just disappointing.

I’m sure this place was wonderful before the pandemic. However now you have to call in your order over the phone and it takes 20-25 minutes. If you do want to eat here, order 20 minutes ahead of time. Food was good though.

My first experience with Foster’s market wasn’t a pleasant one. I didn’t like how they charge extra $2 convenience fee when you order online in advance, so I decided to place an order on site. However, when I arrived, staffs told me that they can’t accept orders on site and all orders had to be placed online or over the phone. At least it would’ve been nice if they announced that on their website in advance or put a barcode for on site contactless orders, but they refused to provide any. After two weeks I finally decided to place an order for Cobb salad despite the extra cost. The salad was very similar to a homemade salad - not too overwhelming with sauce or seasoning - and I liked it overall. Food here is definitely good but their service needs huge improvement.

Foster's has always been one of my favorite Durham restaurants, but they've been a godsend during the pandemic because of their family dinners. For $115 you get dinners for 2 adults for 5 nights (with both meaty and vegetarian options), plus salad and fixings, all of which you pick up curbside. For a little more you can order sides and bread too. The menu is different every week, all the meals are ready to go in the oven, everything seems to be made from scratch and sprinkled with herbs in classic Sarah Foster style, and for us the food always stretches way further than 5 nights of meals. The bag of salad is always giant enough to make some lunch salads, and at least a few of the dinner meals always have enough leftovers for a lunch, so on the weeks we order Foster's, we really don't have to buy many groceries. It's pricier than what it costs to cook yourself, but it's worth it on the occasional week when you're too exhausted and uninspired to go through the motions in the kitchen. Plus let's be real, Sarah Foster's vegetarian food is almost certainly healthier and more interesting than anything we'd make at home, and the chances of me scattering fresh herbs on anything are basically zilch. Highly highly recommend checking out the family dinners if you haven't already.

Foster's has been one of my staples for over a decade. Over the last few years I was going frequently in the summer to enjoy lunch and work outside at one of their many picnic tables for a few hours. They've been very cautious about handling the risks of COVID, which I applaud, although I miss being able to go on a weekday. This place is a Durham institution for a reason! Make sure you check out whatever is on special and what's in the prepared foods section (both salads and hot meals).

The omelet was fluffy and packed with flavor, topped with an amazing herb pesto and crunchy tater tots. My wrap was just what I needed after a hot afternoon walk around the Duke Wall. By far the best place the get breakfast in Durham. I have eaten here many times and every single time I am taken away by the flavors. Fantastic, healthy food that tastes amazing. The atmosphere is comfortable, with wooden tables and floors. There is an outdoor space as well that provides a country kitchen vibe. You can purchase wine or beer to go with your meal. It's basically a way to get a home cooked meal out.

When I looked at the menu online, I was a little apprehensive because I couldn't find any mention of gluten free options, but some of the dishes looked like they would be safe. However, when I called them they immediately told me how several of the items were prepared and that they had gluten free bread that could be substituted on any of the sandwiches, etc. Overall they seemed really familiar with gluten free diets. I had the farm plate and it was really good! It seemed crowded when I got there, but the line moved quickly.

The food is good but somewhat overpriced. I got a sandwich for $8. Not a big sandwich at all. It was good, but not amazing. I think if you're going to charge $8 for a fairly small sandwich, why not at least throw in a handful of chips for free? That wouldn't cost much, and would help round out the meal. The outdoor space is nice and service was good.
