Started in Jacksonville, popped up as a second location in Raleigh, and now firmly anchored in the heart of downtown Durham, Flavor Hills is serving up sought-after soul food with the volume dialed to eleven. Like deviled eggs? Well, theirs are both deviled AND fried, then topped with crumbled bacon and a hot honey glaze. The short rib meatballs in a coconut jerk sauce are like an Italian vacation with a Jamaican twist, and the catfish and grits features a crispy catfish filet, cheesy grits, smokey turkey collards and a Cajun cream sauce that will leave you scraping the bottom of the bowl for a final taste.

Lovely atmosphere, amazing art, welcoming staff, comfortable seating, and fantastic food with a flair! We tried three appetizers, and I can’t wait to go back and try more.
The crab and collard dip had me wondering where that combo has been all my life. The Fried Devil Eggs still have me trying to figure out what kind of magic happened in the kitchen, and the surprise kick from the silky coconut jerk sauce on the Short Rib Meatball had my taste buds tingling with joy. This is my second time being at Flavor Hills, but my first time eating here. I wanted to come try this restaurant for my birthday dinner, and I was not disappointed. Our waitress’ name was Rashida (sorry if I misspelled), and she provided amazing service along with the amazing food! I order one of their signature dishes, Sweet Heat Plate, which I give a 10/10! Their drink, Blacker The Berry was delicious as well (I ordered 2). Needless to say I enjoyed my experience and the food, and I’ll definitely be back soon!

Rasheeda was absolutely amazing! Made sure we had everything we needed despite being busy. Food was top tier! Full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is my vibe. They were sold out of collard greens so I'll definitely be back for those.

Great first time. We live right down town and wanted some different good. Ashley W. Was our server and attentive. I had cash fit and grits. 10/10. Great music and delicious food. Loved the art work. Finally a place I can come to get some great tasting food that gives me soulful feels and makes me feel like Im back in NYC. Thank you!

I think I’m a decent cook…and while I enjoy eating at local establishments, I’m rarely WOW’d by food. But everything here was KNOCK MY SOCKS OFF amazing!! Fried catfish on collard greens and grits, shrimp and grits, sweet potato cornbread, and cocktails. Raja was our server and was very attentive and friendly and made great recommendations. Will definitely be back!!!!

Flavor Hills is really Flavor Mount Kilimanjaro. This is a Flavor bomb of mountain proportion. The sauce for the short rib meatballs is what I call black umami, nothing short of party flavors in your mouth. Those drinks were amazing too. The golden crown ribeye was spectacular that sauce was great and when you got the perfect bite of broccolini, garlic mashed potatoes and steak heaven sent

We had an amazing waiter, Chris was very professional and handled our table with class. The food was amazing and will definitely fill you up. We had the 3 platter appetizers fried egg, crab and collard dip and wings) with like 6 or 7 options to choose from. Of the appetizers my favorite was the wings, best wings I have ever had.. And the fried Catfish with asparagus and rice pilaf was amazing.. Everything's had soooo much flavor.. was not salty… you better not ask for no salt and pepper lol. Cause you won’t need it..
Ok cant forget the great Host, Grace she was so hospitable and very sweet, she even came by to the table to check on us a few times. asked what we ordered and was just as excited as we were about the food..
Desert Peach Cobbler was bussing…..

Flavor Hills is definitely a new favorite in Durham! The catfish, pilaf, and asparagus were honestly some of the best I’ve ever had, perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. The chicken wings were surprisingly juicy and tender all the way to the bone.
Our waiter, Chris, was amazing. Super friendly, attentive, and genuinely made the experience great. My drink never went empty, which is a huge deal for me and something a lot of places overlook. The rest of the staff was just as welcoming and personable.
Highly recommend giving this spot a try! I’ll definitely be back.

Disappointed Birthday Experience at Flavor Hills – Durham
On December 5th, my family (Darnell, Pat & Rod) took me out to celebrate my 61st birthday at Flavor Hills in Durham. We had a 7 PM reservation and were warmly greeted upon arrival. After a short wait at the bar, we were seated and welcomed by our amazing server, Jasmine, who ensured our cocktails and appetizers were timely and perfect. Throughout the evening, Jasmine, Ashley (management), and Chris checked in on us regularly.
Unfortunately, what should have been a wonderful celebration turned sour. We waited over an hour and a half for our main entrees. Despite Jasmine and Ashley repeatedly checking with the kitchen, we later learned that the owners and their guests—who arrived after us—had their meals expedited ahead of paying patrons. This was extremely disappointing, especially on such a special occasion.
While Jasmine and Ashley apologized profusely (and the delay was not their fault), the experience left a bitter taste. Owners should prioritize engaging with guests and ensuring fairness, not “flossing like a boss” while others wait. For a newly opened establishment, this was not the impression we hoped for.
I truly hope Flavor Hills|Durham takes this feedback to heart and implements changes to ensure all guests feel valued and treated equitably.

Front the front desk service to the end waitress this place is a 10/10!! The name suits its dishes- FLAVOR!!!! Christopher was a wonderful waitress. Very knowledgeable with the menu. Everything had flavor and tasted wonderful! We will be back for brunch! Oh The Spaulding 🥃 was amazing!!

Whew, Flavor Hills is pure pressure and FOOD HEAVEN! From beginning to end, this dining experience is precisely what the Bull City has been missing. Ashley, the manager, greeted me, and my server, Chris, was accommodating and made perfect food pairing suggestions. I already have my next reservation, and I'm excited about the basement experience that's in the works. Thank you, Flavor Hill, for adding to the culture of Durham, NC! ❤️
