We always try to stop for chicken and waffles when driving through North Carolina and Dame’s seemed like the right fit for us.
We came early on a Sunday morning and were some of the first in the restaurant. Our service was great. The waiter was attentive, very kind and super helpful in explaining the menu and the different options available to us. In short, it’s a chicken and waffle place and there specialty is probably what you should stick to. They’ve got different variations of chicken and waffles, but their big selling point is what they call their “smear” which is essentially whipped butter with different flavors.
We ordered our food (both of us got chicken and waffles) and got it just 10-15 minutes later, which I thought was surprisingly fast.
The food itself was delicious. Not the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had in my life, but top two, for sure. The chicken was tender and flavorful; not dry, which tends to be a common ailment with C&W places. Interestingly, it also wasn’t greasy to make you feel like you were eating at a KFC. Really impressive. I must also say, the smear was delicious. I got an almond butter sort of thing and wished I could have brought home a vat of it. Fantastic.
The only “ding” this place gets in my book is the price. We spent around $40 for two meals. They were filling and complete meals, have no doubt, but that hurt the wallet and would make me think twice if I were planning on taking multiple people here.
Overall, though. Worth the visit and the experience. Avoid the salmon, get the chicken and waffles and enjoy it.

I was disappointed. Maybe it’s my fault for ordering salmon at a chicken and waffle place but I expected better. The salmon wasn’t fully cooked. What I wanted was the salmon special salad on the board at the door but they didn’t have it. There were a few tables that sat 6 and our server preferred to sit 4 big guys at a four top. Some of our food wasn’t missing. Now, my friends said the chicken and waffles didn’t disappoint. Go for that only.

Great service, quick and efficient. When I asked for recommendations got a quick and confident response. So many cool chicken and waffle options, and good portions.

First time trying this place and it is amazing. During breakfast hours on a weekend expect to be a waiting list, beside that the food was so good and came out fast. Great customer service and clean environment, will be coming back again☺️

This place is the real deal!!! It's hard to claim a spot as "cravable" in downtown Durham, but those shmears are not to be fooled with. Go get yourself some fried chicken from a super friendly staff, and PLEASE do yourself a solid and save room for the Mac and cheese.

As a first time customer, looking forward to Dame’s, I wasn’t really impressed… I ordered a bottle for my mimosa and had to put it in a plastic cup! They had no flutes… I wish my food was hotter as it took a while to come out… my server was actually in the back helping preparing food orders, which I could appreciate but slow service. The chicken was flavorful, just not hot and crispy like I would’ve preferred… It just wasn’t what I was hoping… nice atmosphere though. I hear the one in Cary is better so I’m not counting them out yet!

We got some guidance from our server. He explained that you can mix and match anything and that made my decision harder. I ordered the orange chicken and swapped things around. I wanted a classic chicken cutlet (excellent) was advised to get the vegan waffle (very dense- tastes fine but was not light and fluffy, it had the texture of under cooked waffles- not what I’m used to) I got the blueberry schmere and the hot sauce very similar to Mae ploy. He got a side of scrambled eggs and cheese grits. I loved the regular waffle and chicken cutlet.
