No matter if they are fully staffed or short staffed the food is always outstanding. We were there yesterday, the food was served hot and fast. They were short one server and told us at the door it would be a little wait. We were perfectly fine with that. Thank you for another great meal.

Bullock's Bar-B-Cue is that nostalgic experience that so many of us crave. The menu is expansive, but everything we tried is good or great.
Have been on a Durham tour to find the best fried chicken, and Bullock's is a top contender.
I have 2 babies that are 2 yrs old and under, and the staff was overly accommodating - checking on them and even playing with them regularly.
True southern dining values - good food, solid prices, and everyone will get to know you by name if you welcome it.

Cheap and pretty good. Kind of like a barbeque cafeteria. Maybe good if you have a family and split a large meal. Pretty outdated concept and interior/ menue style.

Of course the pretentious snobs moving to Durham wouldn't dare come to this gem. Their loss!
They've been in business here forever and it's no wonder why. It's one of the best places to go for southern food of all sorts that's always freshly prepared. The food is always delicious and the prices more than fair. The staff is friendly and very attentive.
Cash only, even after all these years, although they still might have an ATM machine inside. Ample parking available too.

A staple of Durham! This type of place has pictures of all the celebrities who visited.
As a southerner, I appreciate these places; the menu has more than enough options. The servers are friendly and kind.

For the volume of business they do, taking credit cards should be a given. Yes they have an atm, but making the customer pay even more... Bad business. Make sure you have cash. Food is adequate.
Update 7/28/22
Everything above is still accurate.
Definitely would NOT be my first choice for any barbecue (others in the area are vastly superior, but I prefer very smoke forward barbecue)... And STILL a cash based business... That in of itself is why I personally choose to have a Picnic with other establishments
**let me reiterate**
No food here is "horrible" if asked I'd respond with "it's okay" (the exact definition of 3 stars)

I've been eating barbecue here since before I was born. I particularly love their barbecue sandwiches, Brunswick stew, coleslaw, and deviled eggs. And the hush puppies!
Update: I''d forgotten how much I love their fried chicken. It is so delicious!

We used Bullock's Bar-B-Cue catering service for our work training. My team had enjoyed their food at a prior event, but this was the first time I'd ever ordered Bullock's catering myself. Not only was Ty so helpful, but he was able to work with me to help figure out what was going to be the best fit for our event. He was able to work with us on the pricing to meet our budget. The food was incredible. Highly recommend!

When I grew up, there where plenty of great BBQ restaurants, like Bullocks, all over. For lunch or dinner, they served plates mounted with delicious meats and wide choice of home cooked vegetables. These meals came with endless baskets of hush puppies, all washed down with big glasses of sweet ice tea. Now these delightful choices food was always “home cooked” style, just like mom used to do it every Sunday.
Well I can count on one hand a few local restaurants that are still serving meals like this and Bullocks is at the top of my list. I’m not their only fan, take a minute and look at the large group of pictures of all the famous people that have visited the famous restaurant.
Be sure to plan on ordering extra BBQ (and deserts) to take home with you. We do and get to enjoy this fabulous food for several more meals. If you are planning a big party, they will do catering.

I was told about this restaurant while my hubby was in rehab in Chapel Hill and it was amazing. I had the brisket with Mac and cheese, pintos and cabbage and my hubby got the brisket with Mac and cheese, rice and gravy and the cabbage. We also split the slaw and potato salad. The only downfall was the rice had some hard spots but other than that the taste and the quality of the food was great. I had to go back the next night to get veggies for us both because we had so much brisket left over and we didn't want to throw it away. We added yams to our veggies for the next night and they were even amazing. I can see why they have been in business for 70 years 😋😋😋. We will return to try some different entrees.
