Husband and wife team Toriano and Serena Fredericks have been melding their Puerto Rican and African American heritage into delightful bites for locals everywhere, first as a food truck and now in the brick-and-mortar restaurant, Boricua Soul. Located in the American Tobacco Campus, this restaurant is perfect for anyone looking for unique plates inspired by Puerto Rican flavors -- think empanadas, pernil, maduros and more.

My first time coming here. I live in Raleigh so I don’t come to Durham often. A friend took me here and said they had BEST Empanadas. We order the chicken ones and YES!! They did the D*mn thing 😊. Two isn’t enough, 4 may be good enough. Order the chicken empanadas.. you won’t regret it .

Food was really good. My only complaint is that the tostones were somehow flavorless? Probably just a bad batch and I'll be sure to try them again the next time I'm in the area.

This is, by far, one of the best lunch time experiences I’ve ever had! The Boricua Soul Bowl 😮💨🔥🙌🏾! The bowl was packed with flavors that married so well. The atmosphere was great! Super clean, superior service, and an overall great experience! If you’re looking for a fusion of Puerto Rican and that good ole SOUL, this is the place to go! You won’t be disappointed. HIGHLY recommend!

I recently went here to have dinner with a friend. I had the Boricua Soul bowl and he had the empanadas and we were both very impressed! The location was very gorgeous and it was a nice place to catch up. I also ordered the frozen rosé, and it was delicious. There was so much that I even shared with my friend. I highly recommend trying Bourica Soul and dining in!

20/10, my Puerto Rican soul was really touched 🥲 😌 Legit, I wanted to cry of happiness and nostalgia altogether because the flavors were giving authentic vibes and hitting the spot. I am so grateful that I found this spot in my 24-hour layover at Durham. I am from Caguas, PR, but I have been living in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, for the past 2 years, and even though I do love my area, you don't find any Hispanic food yet even less a Caribbean nor Puerto Rican place whatsoever so having the chance to try a gem like this was a real treat and honor. Also, the live music and customer service made the experience way more memorable. 🙌🏾 🥰❤️🔥👌🏾✨️

My favorite place for Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 food. The staff is friendly and passionate about the food they provide to you. I drive quite a bit for their food. Love the beef Empanadas, Boricua Soul Bowl, Chicken Wings, frozen peach wine drink! Don't forget dessert the key lime and sweet potato Empanadas 😋 Will see you soon!
