This is our favorite restaurant, and it just never disappoints. I am not one to leave reviews typically, but Pietro is the best. He has taken care of us the last 4 or so times we have been, and from someone that has been a part of the food service industry for over twenty years, it doesn’t get better. His understanding of hospitality, patrons needs, how to read a table, make them feel like they are the only table in restaurant, and so much more is simply unparalleled. Just wanted to share a note of gratitude for both the team at Mother and Sons and mostly for Pietro. Thank you for being a true example of excellence in hospitality.

Hmmm. Either too salty, too bland, too al dente... Just average, Normal?! It was a nice time for us though and was a pretty hopping place even though it was Tuesday at 8:30 pm... Wish them well, just need some consistency in the kitchen.

Best Italian restaurant in NC for sure. Housemade pastas and sauces, fantastic cocktails, patés are amazing. If you love Italian food, please go here.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel. We were unable to walk in to get a table so we sat at the bar. The bartender Peter was so knowledgeable on the menu and gave great honest recommendations. The food was fine but nothing to write home about. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes. Next time we are in Durham, we may give it another try.

My wife found this place on a recent "girls" day out, after seeing Wicked @DPAC. I got to thoroughly enjoy her leftovers WOW. She and I attended a pasta (and ragu) making demo/cooking class. That was informative and excellent. It included an educational wine tasting, a sampling of a few other house specialties as appetizers, as well as another full helping of the fresh made demo pasta and ragu. I highly recommend don't balk because of the price. You will leave full, probably with leftovers and a swag bag that did not disappoint.. Each of us got one, and It included a pint of ragu, a pound of pasta and a bottle of wine.. A great experience. Preplan your parking and avoid DPAC shows and Durham Bulls games, especially. On the same day.. sorry, not a foodie, so didn't think get a before pic...

Traveling on business, I sat at the bar dining alone, the bartender was quite pleasant and friendly and made a few recommendations for appetizers and entrees. If you're an eggplant fan, and I am, you should take advantage of probably the best eggplant parmesan available. That's a great main dish and the red sauce, gravy is also quite good. The disappointment during this trip was the appetizer which was mozzarella wrapped in kale. It lacked any sort of flavor or substance as a standalone and the pickled radish on top would have been a nice compliment however it's sat on a bed of what appeared to be marinated onion in the combination of the three together was quite off-putting. Outside of that when in Durham, and in the mood for incredible eggplant, this is a must visit.
