The Durham Arts Council is a private nonprofit dedicated to supporting the arts in Durham and the entire North Carolina Triangle region. Founded in 1954, the DAC manages the Durham Arts Council building, a unique community arts center, and provides year round programming and services. Each year DAC serves over 400,000 visitors, students, artists, performers, teachers, and arts organizations who participate in DAC community arts classes, camps, and residencies; CenterFest and Durham Art Walk arts festivals; exhibits; grants programs; technical support; arts advocacy; and information services.


The Durham Arts Council is open seven days a week and houses four galleries that showcase rotating exhibits. Admission is free and galleries are open during building hours. Support of the Durham Arts Council's Annual Arts Fund helps DAC fulfill its mission of promoting excellence in and access to the creation, experience, and active support of the arts for all the people in the community.   • Comments Regarding Groups: DAC welcomes the opportunity to provide tours of the Durham Arts Council historic building and rotating exhibits. We recommend groups of 35-40 maximum, but can accommodate larger groups.
  • Group Rates: no charge for tours
  • Maximum Group Size: 40
  • Scheduling Policy: Tours must be scheduled in advance to be sure that staff is available to conduct the tour. The general public may access the galleries without a tour guide, however it is best to confirm if you wish to bring a group at a specific time.

  • Description: The Durham Arts Council is a historic arts center in Durham's city center. The facility includes a 200 seat theatre for performances and presentations, and meeting and reception spaces for private and corporate events. Reception areas are enhanced by rotating exhibits.
