Third Friday at Kingfisher with Artist Leah Smith

Visit Kingfisher on Third Friday to meet artist Leah Smith & view her work – and stay for a cocktail & snack!

Leah Smith is a North Carolina artist based in Mebane whose work seeks to illuminate the relationship between people and the natural environment through a tactile and kinesthetic conversation with culturally elemental materials, oftentimes in iterative, labor-intensive processes that mirror natural creation in their simplicity and cyclicality.

Her sculptural installation for the Kingfisher gallery was created on-site from cotton string and yellow pine, considering the process of weaving as an embrace and celebration of the incremental change and mundane cycles that create the form of a life.

Kingfisher’s gallery space will present a new site-specific art installation every six months, with opening and closing receptions in conjunction with Durham’s Third Friday evenings.
