My father and I went and both ordered off of the pork section of the menu. The waiter was extremely friendly and even went the extra mile to bring us some collard greens to sample before we decided on sides (they were EXCELLENT). Pork was tender and flavorful, sauces complemented beautifully. Mac n cheese, collard greens, and bbq baked beans were all delicious. Great prices too!

Clean, neat, pleasant and quick service. I really liked the variety of BBQ that was on the menu. A type for all my tastes. I will be back for sure.

This is my first time to the Durham location. It’s a real cool building and very cool ambiance. The food was below average in my opinion. The only thing that I can honestly say is worth ordering is the Fried Pimento cheese...it’s AMAZING! Service was below average. I ordered a cocktail and it took every bit of 15 minutes to arrive. I got the beef brisket and it was really under cooked. It was not at all tender. I also got mashed potatoes as a side and it was cold and very bland tasting. Pork rinds were also ordered as an app, but they came out very stale tasting. These should be fried up fresh at this type of restaurant. I’ve been to many of the local BBQ joints and this place isn’t even close to Picnic or Backyard BBQ...but about 1.5 times the price. Very disappointing.

The pit is a wonderful BBQ experience. Great joint located in downtown Durham. Only downside is you pay for it. The plates are a tad more expensive, although the price matches the quality, and it can be crowded sometimes. Love this little gem. Worth checking out if you're in the area and pry worth the trip if you're not. There are also some great bars in direct sight of the restaurant.

Hell no! Please don't waste your money. Ordered baby backs, fried chicken, mac and yams (I think they forgot to add sugar before baking). ALL of my food was cold and it was a Tuesday. Plenty of open seats, meaning the kitchen was not swamped. No excuse.

I had my first North Carolina barbecue here, and it was pretty good. Since it was my first time, I was surprised by how liquid and vinegary the sauces were, but hey, when in Rome, right? I did wish the eastern-style sauce were a little more spicy, though, because if you say that something is “spicy, so you don’t want to chug that down,” I’m expecting at least jalapeño spicy, not just black pepper spicy. Otherwise, the beef brisket was nice and soft. The baby back ribs were super smoky. And the chopped pork was, well, chopped pork. This barbecue was a nice departure from the sugary glazed meats of mass market products.

Food was barely warm, not hot. Like it had been sitting in a warming tray for hiurs. Plate looked like it had been thrown together with BBQ sauce all over. Sloppy presentation! Dining room was bright at 9:00 pm. Lit like a bus station, not a restaurant.
