I was encouraged to stop in at Gonza when I was on a business trip in Durham. Although I arrived fairly early in the dinner hour, seats were already filling up outside. I sat at the bar and was delighted to have a personable bartender welcome me. All the other staff members were kind and talkative and that makes a difference! I ordered the vegetarian tacos and left the side dish up to the bartender to make the decision. He read me well — a savory salad with a bite and crunch and the sweetness of tiny pineapple bites. Yum. The tacos were simply delicious and I left nothing on my plate! And oh, the strawberry margarita was, well, perfect. Just perfect. What a delightful place to eat. Thank you to all!

I rarely take note of excellent wait staff quality, but was very impressed with the level of service and attention. You don't need to fight for service on a busy night, the staff will do well by you. Food is also excellent, tequilas are appropriately strong.

Had to wait a short amount of time arriving at 6:45p. Salsa was fresh and amazing the guacamole was average. We both got drinks his was sangria and mine was the top self margarita, I preferred the marg more. 😉 food was great! Def would come back. Entrees were the steak tacos and chicken fajitas.

The food is better than the atmosphere. It’s been consistent and delicious both times we’ve been. Best queso we’ve had in the Triangle so far and excellent, fast service. You know exactly what you’ll get and prices are super reasonable able.

Great Mexican food. Service was well above our expectations and the food was incredible. I had the Mole Enchiladas and the flavors were amazing. Mole is one sauce that it varies on flavor in each restaurant. It takes quite an amount of ingredients and mixed together according to the specific recipe. So, it is almost impossible to find consistency in flavors. However, the distinctive flavor of mole can be missed completely but not here; they did an amazing job, including every other dish we ordered.

We had a great food here! Delicious foods in quirky surroundings. A real gem and highly recommended. Plenty of vegetarian options.

The dinners here are usually good however we came with a larger group the last two times and service was very slow. Everyone at the table ordered a cocktail but when I ordered a beer the server asked me why not a cocktail, when I told them I didnt like tequila rather than accepting that answer she stated it was because I must have never had "good" tequila before. Honestly to pay this much for dinner and slow service I would expect to at least be able to order the drink of my choice. Our dinner group is going to try a different restaurant next go round.

Best Mexican food in Durham. Full menu to choose from as well as a decent bar. Recommend making reservations as it can get rather crowded.

Picked up take out from here last weekend. First time walking in it's such a quaint little restaurant. Wasn't too loud or crowded - I went about 45 minutes before close. I sat at the bar for a second and waited for my food. The whole staff went above and beyond and were super nice! I got home and the house salad with dressing (has black olives in it) was extremely delicious as well as the lasagna I ordered. I would love to go back and dine in. Good thing it's within walking distance.

Great food for a good price. I love the atmosphere, and sitting outside when the weather is nice. Great place to bring family/friends for dinner. Only suggestion for improvement is that it can take a while to get your drinks refilled.

Very cool, hip Mexican/Colombian restaurant and bar in a large space with outdoor seating when weather permits. This was my first visit to Gonnza but I would definitely return the next time I am in the area. Besides the Durham location there are 4 other locations as well in North Raleigh, Downtown Raleigh, Wake Forest and Gary. Food and drinks we ordered were very good and the service was fine too. We had arrived early about 5:30 pm on a weeknight and there were many open tables, but by 6 pm the place was getting packed. I would recommend a reservation if you plan on going later than 5 or 5:30ish.

Being from a border town, I know a good margarita, and this is the closest thing to it in the triangle. The Gonza in Durham is the best in the triangle, consistently excellent service and the bar staff has been the same since I first arrived two years ago. Must try!

Pretty good Mexican food. I was here for a catered event. It was surprisingly savory, albeit not authentic. Still, I'd recommend coming here since it has a great atmosphere.

Delicious and great service! Jonathan was our server and he did a great job of taking care of us. He recommended some wonderful dishes. The braised short rib tacos were so yummy! Had I known earlier, I would have requested a table outside because the patio looked so fun.

Enjoyed our chips, salsa and queso. Enjoyed my vegetarian tacos and plantains and my husband quite liked his dish too. Hard to decide between 4 and 5 stars. For me, having one more veggie taco option would bump this to a 5, but I still definitely recommend this spot!

Great atmosphere, great wait staff, great seating, food though lacked the classic Mexican/Colombian flavors and smell. Portions are extremely small as well. The tortillas they use are about 3 inches in diameter. The highlight was the plantain which had more flavor that the pulled pork and steak that were in the "tacos". Guacamole is fresh though.

Food at atmosphere were awesome. Great area to sit outside and it is dog friendly. The food is very good and pretty cheap. Drinks are a little pricey but they use higher end ingredients so it's not bad if you are having 1 or 2. We definitely plan on returning

Being vegetarian and lactose free was probably my downfall. I ordered the vegetarian taco without green peppers and cheese. The waitress was very nice and said it was not a problem. The tacos were 3 tiny flour tortillas with cheese melted on the tortillas, chopped green and red peppers & onions and topped with a slice of mushroom. Along with a tiny bowl of rice & beans, my meal was more like an appetizer, definitely not dinner size. The evening went downhill from there. A man (possibly manager) came to try to remedy my green pepper & cheese laden tacos issue. He took them to the kitchen and shortly returned with gloves on to tell me he had picked off the green peppers for me and expected me to be happy with that. Nothing was said about the cheese. We asked for the check at that point. Being vegetarian is difficult at best in Durham but I have always had much better luck than I did at Gonza's and I probably won't be back. My husband did like his bacon wrapped jalapeno.

It was delicious! Only complaint is the server wasn't very attentive. Never came back and asked how our food was and had to ask for drink refills. She was very nice though. Absolutely will return! The queso is the best!

Shaun was a great server and very informative. I'm coming back for the amazing immaculate service alone. The food spoke for itself and melted me in my seat.
