Durham Restaurateurs are James Beard Awards Finalists

The “Oscars of food” have two nominees in Durham, NC.

Posted By Craig Carter on Mar 04, 2022

The James Beard Foundation Awards are considered the “Oscars of food,” so receiving a nomination is a great honor. Unfortunately, the awards were postponed for two years due to the pandemic. But now they're back, and Durham restaurateurs Shannon Healy and Ricky Moore are two semifinalists.

EDIT: They are both now finalists!

Alley Twenty Six

Anyone who’s stumbled upon the iconic alley next to Alley Twenty Six knows they’re in for a treat. Owner Shannon Healy has a passion for perfectly-crafted cocktails, which is why you’ll often see him behind the bar making them. Alley Twenty Six is nominated for Outstanding Bar Program, and it is the first NC bar program to be nominated in the category since it was established as a category in 2012.

Saltbox Seafood Joint

If you’re looking for fresh, local seafood, Saltbox Seafood Joint is where it’s at. Chef Ricky Moore was inspired by classic seafood shacks you find dotted along the coast. Moore’s passion for food comes through with each bite, and that’s why he is nominated for Best Chef: Southeast.
