Eat like a local
You're here in Durham, and you deserve some good eats; lets not be bashful about doing some double duty with a delicious purchase from a local restaurant or cafe.
Coffee beans, tea leaves, fresh fries, sauces and sweets await. We’re where the only Zimbabwean restaurant in the country has been tirelessly serving its community for nearly two years now; where food trucks turned dreams on wheels into dope brick and mortars, and where family ventures have turned into brilliant community staples. Our paper tray delights exceed gourmet expectations, and international flavors abound here, too. If you're lucky enough to have skills in the kitchen, take advantage of great culinary minds with some culinary hacks from Durham's James Beard nominated chefs, or have some local dishes delivered to your front door. Come here for both the new and the legacy-filled eateries that have made Durham an extraordinary foodie destination for decades.
Wear swag like a local
Online shopping is still a thing, y'all, and local businesses need it more than ever. Make sure you've got your Bull City gear and those coveted Durham wares to show you've been here. From Runaway to Hometown Apparel to Your Future, Parker and Otis and Morgan Imports (catch them while you still can!), we'll absolutely make sure you've got what you need to step out in style during any season of the year.
See and be seen ... like a local
The binge-recap-repeat cycle we're all doing virtually is real ... and there's no better time than this to discover new, Durham-themed entertainment. We've got a list of our favorite big and small screen films and shows that remind us of Durham here. Make it fun: while you recap with friends and family on your favorite episodes virtually, we created custom Durham-themed Zoom backgrounds. Which is your favorite location?

Despite being safer at home, the days and weeks are melting together (literally). Don't let these beautiful days pass you by! We compiled a list of Durham partners and places you can put together to make for the perfect socially distant social media album. Curate an album of your favorite memories and share them on social media (especially with us!)
Grab the gift that keeps on giving by purchasing a local gift card, whether it be for a favorite restaurant or a favorite retailer (cotton candy is delicious year round)! Trust us, you'll thank your future self for it, and contribute to a movement that keeps the small businesses that are Durham's soul intact.
Support art like a local
DPAC may have suspended all performances but they’re still offering patrons of the arts a taste via their YouTube channel, DPACLive. Plus, they have Instagram Live Q&A interviews with Broadway stars, virtual backstage tours, Zoom masterclasses and more! Keep your creative juices flowing by purchasing a DIY art kit from female-owned AR Workshop, get art delivered to your door from 5 Points Gallery, or commission a local female Durham artist such as Candy Carver or Amy May Pop Art for a custom-made piece. Do more of the good by supporting local artists as they adjust to this new virtual landscape, including donating to one of the artist relief funds.
Tour like a local
The Museum of Durham History blog has been posting scavenger hunts that will guide you through some of the sources they use to help explore Durham’s history. In case you missed them, exploring changes to Durham's landscape with Open Durham, browse historic yearbooks through DigitalNC, and enjoy a postcard collection and online Civil Rights exhibit from the North Carolina Collection. There is always the incredible Durham 360 AR virtual tour you can take at any time, anywhere, as well as this dope downtown walking tour that makes the best use of an hour ... or an afternoon.
Practice self care like a local
Light that Bright Black candle, indulge in an at-home bespoke facial, or maybe even an at-home spa day with local products from Bulldega Urban Market. The day is rife with opportunities for self-care, even if they’re done from afar. If you’re close enough to tend your garden in the afternoon, why not bring some plants home from a local Durham nursery to plant? At the very least, have some local Durham spirits delivered to her door to keep your spirits high.
At the end of the day, these Durham-influenced treasures are bound to make her feel like you've slayed every day. Whatever you do, love on you —the Durham way.
