How to Spend a Rainy Day in Durham
What do you do when wet weather hits and your kids are going stir crazy?

One Durham family helped us answer that question as we tagged along to film this Rainy Day Durham video. The Freelons showed us how to turn outside gloom into indoor fun at various family friendly stops around the city. Watch the fun unfold in the video and check out the Freelons’ itinerary below.
Let’s face it: You don’t need a rainy day to enjoy a doughnut, but it’s entirely possible that you need a doughnut to enjoy a rainy day. Made from scratch, locally sourced, and kid approved, Monuts’ menu features coveted rings of sweetened dough, as well as a full breakfast and lunch menu that will provide the necessary energy for enjoying your next stop. You can’t go wrong with a plain glazed, though adventurous kiddos will enjoy eclectic flavors like peppermint white chocolate and apple cider.
Though it’s situated on 84 acres and features a multitude of outdoor activities, the Museum of Life + Science also has plenty of indoor excitement for the A two-story science center will keep kids and parents entertained as they explore exhibits like Soundspace, an interactive dance floor, and the Magic Wings Butterfly House, which also houses the Bayer Insectarium, one of the largest on the East Coast.
If you’re like the Freelons, you’ve worked up another appetite by now. That’s where Bull City Burger comes in. Customers can build their own burgers and hotdogs, which are made from pasture-raised, antibiotic-free North Carolina beef. As an added bonus, the little ones can play in a casual kid zone in the corner while you wait for lunch. With any luck, the weather will be better tomorrow, but even if isn’t there’s plenty of fun to be had in Durham. This was only the tip of the iceberg!
