Grab life, graduates.
Posted By Ashley Strahm on Apr 25, 2019
If you're already counting the activities you haven't yet marked off your Durham checklist, we’re here to help. This graduation bucket list is everything you need to see, do, eat, and enjoy before making your mark on the world outside of Durham — and you can even bring family and friends along for the ride!
1. Outdoor Music
2. Stroll along the Eno
Go for a springtime hike at the 4,200-acre Eno River State Park — don't forget stop for photos on the suspension bridge!
3. Mother's Day Brunch
Mother's day is May 12; treat the mothers you know and love in life to afternoon tea at the Washington Duke Inn, followed by an evening Broadway show at DPAC, Durham Performing Arts Center. Or, kick the day off with mimosas, live music, and a special brunch at the Tamale Factory!
What's more (and just in time for strawberry season) Guglhupf Bakery we’ll have strawberry tarts, strawberry rhubarb crostada, strawberry petit fours, and more! Enjoy their Mother's Day bakery specialties, and their special menu for our graduates on Friday and Saturday night, with more strawberry specials for weekend brunch.
4. Durham Bulls Game
Attend a Durham Bulls home game! As the City of Durham celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019, the Durham Bulls are throwing it back to 1902. That year, the Durham Tobacconists took the field as Durham's first professional baseball team, with the name an ode to the agricultural industry at the time. As no images of the Tobacconists team of 1902 can be found, the Bulls are proud to unveil a modern take on these "fauxback" uniforms.
Be there when the Durham Bulls transform into the Durham Tobacconists for five games in 2019. Get those tickets now!
5. Duke Lemur Center
6. Baseball with some History
Attend a North Carolina Central University baseball game at the historic Durham Athletic Park.
7. Eat All the Things!
Eat and drink at as many celebrated Durham restaurants and coffee shops as possible. Need some ideas? Check out these lists to create your own dining adventure.
8. Bar Hop
9. A Toast to Durham
Celebratory beverages abound in Durham for our 150th anniversary year; if you're into craft beverages, you're in luck. Enjoy your graduate status by enjoying some birthday brews at local breweries, or creating your own cocktails with award winning Conniption gin from Durham Distillery.
10. The Farmer's Market
11. Tour Downtown
Cruise downtown on foot or by spoke, visiting Brightleaf Square, Black Wall Street, and local boutiques like Zen Succulent, Indio, and Everyday Magic. You can stop by the Durham Visitor Info Center in the heart of downtown for recommendations and a touch screen, AR view of Durham to plot your next stop.
12. Take an Iconic Photo
