NC Comicon is taking over Downtown Durham on November 11-13, bringing together artists, writers, and fans in a celebration of comic culture. Events include comic panels, portfolio review for emerging creators, cosplay contests, and even a Lego workshop for kids (and kids at heart). Here’s a sneak peek of the convention’s can’t-miss events:
- Gerard Way, comic creator and co-founder of My Chemical Romance, will be headlining NC Comicon all weekend. You can also find Lee Child, author of the Jack Reacher novels, and Klaus Janson, known for the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Daredevil comics.
- Visit the Artist Alley at the Durham Convention Center, where you’ll find unique art by dozens of artists from Durham and across the United States. Talk to the creators of your favorite characters, commission custom art, and discover up-and-coming talent.
- Head to the Durham Armory for the 2016 Cosplay Kingdom, where you can participate in photoshoots, cosplay panels and workshops, and costume showcases all weekend long. There’s even a cosplay “hospital” for costume emergencies.
- If you’d rather take it easy, you can catch a modern classic or retro film at the Comiquest Film Festival, held in conjunction with NC Comicon. This year, the creators of the Young Animal comic series have selected films that are analogous to the series in terms of scope and thematic elements. You end up with offerings as diverse as Big Trouble in Little China (1986) and Mean Girls (2004), so there’s truly something for everyone.
