Local efforts have expanded to facilitate support for communities impacted by the coronavirus and social distancing efforts. Refer to the following resources to pitch in to help Durham families.

Discover Durham is not affiliated with and has not organized any of the following fundraisers. Please use your best judgment when donating to any online fundraising effort.

Durham County Public Health Resources for Coronavirus Relief

Public health authorities and other government agencies have encountered an incredible number of people reaching out about how they can help. Durham County Public Health has pulled this one-pager together with places to donate, volunteer, read more, etc. Please consult this robust list of resources to see how you can assist.

Durham Distillery Sanitizing Solution

Owners Melissa and Lee Katrincic are offering hospitality partners donations of a highly effective sanitizing solution of ~70% ethanol and distilled water that is created during the process of distilling their award-winning gin. At this concentration, microbes are killed upon spraying and evaporation. If you work in hospitality and would like to request a donation, contact Durham Distillery here.

Durham Public Schools Foundation

The DPS Foundation is currently taking donations to help prevent students from falling behind. The system has repurposed their school buses to deliver meals and remote learning resources.

Glass Jug Beer Lab Drives

The Glass Jug Beer Lab is hosting a donation drive for food, cleaning supplies, and cash that will be given to the Food Bank of Eastern & Central NC and the Durham Rescue Mission to help out during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because public schools in our area are closing (which means children in our community may be without childcare and the school meals they depend on), families and children are turning to the food banks, which already struggle to provide enough food, even under normal conditions. Additionally, Durham Rescue Mission is crowded and unable to close, because the homeless have nowhere else to turn.

Glass Jug Beer Lab will accept donations of the following supplies:

- Food (all will be donated to the Durham location of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina)
- Cleaning supplies (to be donated to the Durham Rescue Mission)
- Cash donations (for the Food Bank)

The Glass Jug will collect donations from now through Sunday, March 22nd
. They are taking extra precautions to keep everything at The Jug as clean and sanitized as possible, and because staff is comprised of mostly hourly tipped bartenders, your generosity in the tip jar would be much appreciated in the coming weeks.

Individual and Small Business Financial Assistance

Local Durham residents created an interactive spreadsheet with opportunities to offer help to individuals and small businesses feeling the financial strain of the virus' impact on our community. Access the sheet here.

NorthStar Artist Fund

Artists are being hit hard by the pandemic-induced social distancing efforts. NorthStar Church of the Arts, a pillar for creativity, culture and community engagement in Durham, has created a fundraising campaign intended to assist musicians, dancers, visual artists, actors, filmmakers and more whose livelihoods are deeply affected by event cancellations. Additionally, a large percentage of artists supplement their incomes with part time jobs, often in the service industries that will be hit hard by this pandemic.

Funds donated here go directly to artists and arts presenters in Durham who have been financially impacted by cancellations due to COVID-19, with priority given to to BIPOC artists, transgender and nonbinary artists, and disabled artists (note: we will try to help as many artists with need in Durham as we can). Donate to Durham artists here.

Printing Services

Laser Image NC is offering a 25% discount on printing geared toward the hospitality and food service industry (in light of the new requirements that they can only offer to-go, curbside, and delivery orders at this time). They are currently doing some yard signs and new to go menus for customers, and are happy to assist with printing needs for partners.

Triangle Restaurant Workers Relief Fund

Donate to the Triangle Restaurant Workers Relief Fund, hosted by The Frankie Lemmon Foundation. It will award immediate grants to hospitality workers that have experienced income loss due to restaurant closures because of COVID-19.

INDY Week Business Spotlight

Indy Week plans to use their Primer and newsletters over the next weeks and months to spotlight local businesses. This is an effort to give struggling businesses a chance to tell their story to an audience that is now tuned in as a result of social distancing.

If you own a local business and would like thousands of engaged readers to know more about you, email jbillman@indyweek.com. You'll be set up with their sales department for free inclusion in an edition of Indy Week soon.

The Patchwork Market Insta-Market and Auction

The Patchwork Market is hosting an Insta-market and Insta-auction (March 21) to help local vendors connect with customers, right at their fingertips. Learn more here.

Love and Nourish 2020

This campaign was formed to feed the most vulnerable in our community through a relationship between Southern Harvest Hospitality Group, The Honeysuckle, Unique Places to Save and leading area agencies: DPS Foundation, End Hunger Durham, Families Moving Forward and Sunday Supper Durham.

The campaign aims to bring low cost, high nutrition meals to Durham families in need and put collaborative teams back to work. Learn more by donating, or engaging this online giving and ordering portal where organizers can serve meals and help to raise funds for supporting and feeding families in crisis. Pre-order meals for the family now! Meals will be ready for pickup starting Monday 3/23.

DAC Arts Recovery Fund

The DAC Arts Recovery Fund is working in partnership with the Durham Artist Relief Fund established by Northstar Church of the Arts (the two funds intend to support, cross-promote, and coordinate with each other to maximize resources available to the arts community). The fund seeks to expand emergency resources by attracting and administering dollars on behalf of public and private funders that are not able to channel their support through a GoFundMe platform. Individual donors may give through either campaign, or both! Support the fund here.

Do you have a Durham relief effort that isn't listed here? E-mail updates@discoverdurham.com so we can include it in this post.
